We arrived into San Diego about 10 am. What a beautiful place it is! You can see the harbor area from the airport. Clear blue skies, warm sun shining down on the water, downtown in the distance - WOW! This is what Long Beach should've been! Wayne promptly picked him up, and Genjitsu formally met Gina of the SJ twins. His first impression?
"Wow, she's so quiet and soft-spoken!"
They decided to drive to the hotel to check in first, since they had around 2 hours to kill before Umigoddess came in. The room at the Embassy Suites wasn't ready though - they had to wait until 4. So, checking in their bags, they all decided to head for the beach area and enjoy the sunshine. Genri was dying of hunger, but Gina magically transformed into his saint when she offered peanut butter sandwiches! Genri ate half, but decided to gain some good karma, and feed a piece to the lone pigeon that was sitting nearby.
That pigeon looked so happy as it munched on the bread!
And so did its 500 other pigeon friends who flew in as they realized there was somebody giving out food. Oh well, at least they provided for some entertainment - Genri and the others spent the time naming pigeons after people they knew. "Oooh, that pigeon is chasing the female ones and pecking their behinds - we know who that is!"
After Umigoddess arrived at the airport they all headed back to the hotel in the hopes of having their room ready. It wasn't, but their friend Justin was waiting at the lobby for them! Now all they were missing is Allie Skuld, but she wasn't due in until evening. Off to the convention center then!
By the time they got there, it was around 2, and the convention appeared to be in full swing. Justin already had his pass, and Umigoddess wanted to pick hers up. Wayne and Genjitsu didn't pre-reg though, and they weren't sure if they wanted to buy a full pass. Genjitsu spotted a great deal though - $10 for a pass after 4! The group decided to split into two groups - Justin, Umigoddess, and Gina would go look around the convention, while Genjitsu and Wayne would do the typical guy thing - go to the mall and hang out!
After checking the important places of the mall (Game store, toy store, video store), they met back with everybody. Gina picked up two friends along the way, Emily and her sister. They had these cute outfits from Slayers, though everybody was confusing them for Sailor Moon. They headed back to the hotel. At last, the room was ready, but it was worth the wait - it was BIG! Justin, as usual, immediately filled the closet with his Jrock outfits.
Everybody relaxed in the room for a while - Gina had invited everybody to dinner at 7 at the Sphaghetti Factory. Genri tried to sleep, but Emily kept poking him with Wayne's shinnai, much to his agony. He retreated to the couch and managed to doze. Wayne and Umigoddess changed into their Rival School outfits. At around 6:30, Justin showed his talent in scaring the hell out of Genri again:
"Genri, time to wake up...."
"Huh?"
Genri stares straight ahead, and directly in his field of vision is Justin in
a thong.
"....OH MY GOD AHHHHHHHH!"
Let's see now, Friday night, downtown San Diego, no reservations at a popular restaurant, with a party of about 15 people. Can you say wait time? Haiiiiiiiiiii! They had about an hour to wait once they placed their reservation. Genri, Wayne, and Gina wanted to check out the wonderful wig place, so they wandered through downtown. Along the way, Gina and Wayne discovered that Genri actually ran a business here, without telling anybody!
About an hour later, Wayne gets a call on his cell - Allie was finally here! They met up with her at the convention center, and herded her back to the restaurant, where everybody was already seated. There was much merriment with pasta, as Umigoddess turned into Mama Tiff and gave everybody awards for listing 5 books that they read! After dinner, everybody wandered back to their respective hotels. Who should they see at the door none other than Allie's boyfriend, sitting at the doorstep! Now everybody was really here, and the rest of the night was spent practicing the skit: Chun Li's Angels!
