Well, it was here. Saturday, the big day of the masquerade. Actually, this seemed like the shortest day of Anime Expo for Genjitsu. First, he wanted to show off his pride and joy, Gene Starwind! Genjitsu wanted to do this outfit since Akon '99, and he knew what it would involve: a leotard. But, willing to give up all his pride and dignity for cosplay, Gene Starwind lives! Actually, it wasn't so bad, since Gene has a large yellow cloak. Genjitsu ran around the dealer's room, and even managed to get a shot from Fansview!. Not many people recognized his outfit though, and the cloak was making him really warm. Taking a deep breath, Genjitsu took the cloak off! Suddenly, you could hear shouts throughout the con: |

All in all, Genjitsu didn't get to wear Gene as long as he wanted, but it still needed some final touch-ups that could wait till Fanime or some other convention. When he got back from the dealer's room, about 2 hours later, his friends were still prepping up for their Himikoden cosplay! When they were finally ready, they all headed to the lovely waterfalls for some beautiful naturesque shots. Surprisingly, the Himikoden group wasn't as swamped with photographers as their Hameln group last year, even with the skimpy outfits. Then again, they were really late in coming out, and soon had to go back to the hotel room to prepare for the masquerade. Speaking of the masquerade... |
At around 4:00, Genjitsu and Mack went back to the hotel room to prepare for the coming of Kamui and Fuuma. Donning their wings, they quickly dashed to the masquerade check-in, despite the number of photographers who asked for a picture. When they arrived, much to their surprise, they weren't the only ones with large wings! Indeed, the Japanese cosplayers had an angel type person, and there was an angelic Belldandy! Everybody's wings were gorgeous, and Genjitsu was surprised at the quality increase in costumes this year. (He was also surprised at the number of Kamui fangirls!)
Even with their bishonen power, Kamui and Fuuma were no match for the competitors without a skit. Leave it to Genjitsu! Since they both had the swords, he conjured up an epic battle between Kamui and Fuuma, done to the tune of X, from the X^2 music video! Swords clash at every "X" in the chorus! Wonderful!!!! But then, the music fades into Forever Love...and who should intervene in the middle but..
CACTUAR?!
Yes! Genjitsu and Mack's friend Nick wanted to be in the group too, but he randomly decided to cosplay a giant Cactuar! But what other symbol of love and peace, to quell the epic battle for the fate of the world, than a giant Cactus?
Ok, so it sounds a little kooky, and probably would never work. Which is why after one chorus of Forever Love, it fades back into the hard j-rock sounds of X, where Kamui and Fuuma team up - on Cactuar! Through the bonds of "team-up and get rid of this weirdo", the Dragons of Heaven and Earth vanquished Cactuar!!!!

But this year's skits were really well done, and judging was also a little skewed, so Genjitsu and Mack didn't end up winning. But the audience got a laugh, and as usual, the adrenaline rush of being on stage with wings, beating up a giant Cactuar, made it all worth it! And after the masquerade, everybody swarmed to take pictures! Even the Japanese Cosplayers! To be approached by one of these gods of cosplay, and asked in wonderful Japanese English, "Picture please?"...That made Genjitsu's day! |

After the masquerade, it was time to wander and look for room parties! Genjitsu finds himself wandering into...Cleo's room! After being fed there (in exchange for wearing weird pants), and hanging out with the Tales of Phantasia group, the rest of the night was spent in a combination of wandering the hotel and DDRing...
